The Finsterwitzkopf or Finsterwitz ( 2254  m above sea level ) is a panoramic mountain at the end of the Dorferkamm in the Venediger Group in East Tyrol ( Austria ). It is located in the municipality of Prägraten am Großvenediger . The neighboring summit is the Göriacher Almkopf in the north.

location

The Finsterwitzkopf forms the southern end of the Dorferkamm and rises north over the two districts of Ströden and Hinterbichl . It is a mountain that is almost steep on all sides and is flat only on the south ridge. To the west of the Finsterwitzkopf lies the Maurer Valley with the Mauer Bach, in the east the Hinterbichler Dorfertal with the Dofer Bach. To the north of the Finsterwitzkopf lies the Göriacher Almkopf ( 2434  m ), an insignificant grassy crest to which the Finsterwitzkopf is connected by the Trennsattel ( 2208  m ).

Ascent

The Finsterwitzkopf can be reached on a marked path over a pure walking area. Starting from Hinterbichl, the ascent takes around 2 to 2.5 hours, first of all via a forest path to the Groderhof and then the further path leads steeply to the meadows of the broad south ridge. Along the southern ridge, the ridge's promontory, the so-called Gruntschabichl ( 2061  m ), is reached before the summit is reached in a western arch .
