Hinterbichl is the westernmost fraction of the community of Prägraten am Großvenediger ( East Tyrol ). The village is located at the head of the Virgental valley at the confluence of the Isel and Dorferbach rivers .

geography

Hinterbichl consists of the village of Hinterbichl and several surrounding Rotten and individual settlements. In 2001 the place comprised a total of 55 buildings. The village of Hinterbichl itself is located at an altitude of 1329  m above sea level. A. on the debris cone of the Dorferbach. Hinterbichl also includes Rotte Feldner , east of the Isel , the second-highest Hof Groder on the Groder Berg at 1,512 meters, and Hof Ströden in the far west at the confluence of the Mauerbach and Isel rivers . Until the 1980s, Statistics Austria also showed the scattered settlement of Forstlehen between Hinterbichl and Ströden, the scattered settlement of Maierhofer north of the center and the south-west of the center of Hof Hinterglanz separately.

economy

Hinterbichl is home to 15 workplaces and 24 agricultural and forestry operations. The place lives mainly from quiet tourism, which mainly attracts hikers and mountaineers in summer and cross-country skiers and ski tourers in the winter months . The largest employer in the entire community of Prägraten is Lauster Steinbau GmbH, which in 2001 employed 29 people. Lauster Steinbau operates serpentine mining in Hinterbichler Dorfertal. Hinterbichl attracted early, albeit modest, tourist attention at the end of the 1920s when the Vienna Boys' Choir took up their summer quarters here. These celebrities attracted further guests. The former hotel of the boys 'choir is still standing today, the associated so-called boys' house burned down in 1993.

The hydropower plant on the local road, which is supplied via pressure pipes from the Dorfertal , was put into operation in 2006.

Attractions

Hinterbichl is home to four listed objects . There are three chapels and the working mill on the Islitzbach. The chapel dedicated to St. Chrysanth and Sebastian on the local road dates from 1783 and is splendidly decorated . The Maria vom Guten Rat chapel from 1886 is located on the high-lying Groderhof, and another court chapel is located in the hamlet of Ströden ( Herz-Jesu chapel from 1893).

The Umbal Falls in the Umbaltal are again designated as a natural monument .
