Fiolhoso is a municipality in the Murça district in the Portuguese district of Vila Real with 452 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
location
It is located on the Fiolhoso hill of the same name in the southwest of the Murça district and consists of the three villages Fiolhoso, Levandeira and Cadaval. Fiolhoso is located around 30 kilometers from the district capital Vila Real in the southwest at an altitude of between 700 and 800 meters. The municipality of Fiolhoso can be reached via National Road 15 and National Road 212, the latter going through the village. To Murca in the east it is 4 km as the crow flies and to the Spanish border also around 10 km in the east.
economy
The residents mainly do agriculture. Mainly the cultivation of potatoes, wine, fruit and vegetables and the cattle breeding are the basis of Fiolhoso's economy today. There are also some construction companies. The community is shaped by the emigration of a large part of the population in the 1960s and 1970s, primarily to Luxembourg, but also to Germany and France. During this time, the life and the entire social structure of Fiolhoso has changed significantly.
Infrastructure
The infrastructure of the village includes a. a health center, a retirement home, a kindergarten and a sports hall. The Luxembourg state contributed financially to the construction of the old people's home.
Events
The traditional festivities always take place on the third weekend of August. The festival lasts four days and culminates on Sunday with the religious ceremony for St. Barbara ("Santa Bárbara").
