The "First National Bank of Namibia Limited" (FNB Namibia), as the largest company in the holding, has, in addition to its headquarters in Windhoek with over 35 branches, 15 agencies and 232 ATMs, the most extensive network of bank branches in Namibia.

history

The “National Bank of South Africa” emerged in 1915 from the disbanded “Deutsche-Afrika Bank”, with branches in Lüderitz , Swakopmund , Keetmanshoop and Windhoek .

In 1919 the Omaruru branch was opened, later the one in Karibib , Walvis Bay and Usakos . In 1926, the bank was incorporated into Barclays Bank (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas).

After a series of name changes and the incorporation of a small bank in Namibia, the bank was renamed "First National Bank of SWA / Namibia Limited" on February 12, 1988, a wholly-owned subsidiary of First National Bank Holdings Limited today's name.

The First National Bank was the first bank to be traded on the Namibia Stock Exchange in 1997 and is also the largest company there.

Since the merger of the banking activities of Anglo American Corporation and Rand Merchant Bank Holdings in 1998, the First National Bank of Namibia has been part of the FirstRand Group.

Extraordinary activities

In addition to its activities as a credit and finance company, the FNB is primarily involved in sports sponsorship. Among other things, six teams in the Namibia Premier League (e.g. Tigers ) are supported.
