The Fish River is a river in the middle of the Australian state of New South Wales .

It rises on the western slopes of Shooters Hill , about 20 kilometers southeast of Oberon and flows from there to the northwest, to flow east of Bathurst into the Macquarie River .

The Fish River reservoir is located near Oberon , the water of which is used to irrigate the agricultural areas in the area.

Surname

The Fish River got its name from the explorers of the Bathurst area because there were so many fish in it. The reason for this lies in the constant water flow of the river over the year, which is rather rare in Australia.
