Five Iron Frenzy (or simply FIF ) is a Christian ska-punk - band from Denver ( United States ).

history

Five Iron Frenzy was born from a music project by Ropers, Ortegas, Hoerigs and Kerr's band Exhumator. The members of Exhumator wanted to stir up the local music scene a bit with this project and in 1996, after initial success, signed a recording contract with Frank Tates 5 Minute Walk Records. A year-long tour of America followed.

In 1998, songwriter and rhythm guitarist Scott Kerr left the band to start his own project, Yellow Second . He was replaced by Sonnie Johnston. Five Iron Frenzy's popularity grew in 2000 with the release of the album All The Hype That Money Can Buy .

In December 2002 the band announced that they would split up after the upcoming tour. They played their last concert on November 22nd, 2003 in the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, which was followed by more than 4,000 people.

A surprising comeback follows in 2011. On November 22nd, the band announced it on Facebook. They asked for US $ 30,000 in donations to release a new CD in 2013, which was collected in less than an hour through fan donations. The comeback album Engine of a Million Plots was released in December 2013.

style

Musically, Five Iron Frenzy move between numerous styles, from Ska , Punk and Rock to Metal and Hip-Hop , some of which they process and satirize in a very ironic way (this can be demonstrated particularly well on the Quantity Is Job 1 EP, on which a textual theme is made fun of in numerous musical styles).

Melodically , the brass section dominates, especially in the choruses . Most of the pieces are based on simple punk structures, which are, however, played cleanly and partly shine with demanding bass lines.

In terms of content, the texts range from pure nonsense to serious texts that deal critically with the negative excesses of capitalism and modern society, to deeply Christian confessions and praise .
