Fyodor Pavlovich Ryabushinsky ( Russian Фёдор Павлович Рябушинский ; born April 12 . Jul / 24. April  1885 greg. In Moscow , † 1910 ) was a Russian patron and organizer of the Kamchatka expedition from 1908 to 1910.

Life

Ryabushinsky was the youngest of the eight sons of the important entrepreneur and investor Pavel Mikhailovich Ryabushinsky . He was passionate about geography since his youth and dreamed of voyages of discovery. His poor health stood in the way of this; he suffered from tuberculosis at an early age . At the age of 20, Alexei Arssenjewitsch Ivanovsky trained him for a year in geography, anthropology and ethnography of Siberia . Apparently Ryabushinsky was already thinking of an expedition to Kamchatka. With his expedition plans he turned to various institutions in Moscow and St. Petersburg . Only the Russian Geographical Society agreed to take part in the expedition. Ryabushinsky took over the financing of the expedition (400,000 rubles for the expedition itself and 300,000 rubles for evaluation and publications), which was carried out 1908-1910. The scientists on the expedition included the oceanographer Juli Michailowitsch Schokalski , the cartographer Pyotr Petrovich Semjonow-Tjan-Schanski and the ethnographer Waldemar Jochelson . The head of the expedition was the botanist and geographer Vladimir Leontjewitsch Komarow . One of the younger employees of the expedition was the geodesist Nikolai Georgievich Kell , who created the first map of the Kamchatka volcanoes . Rjabuschinski could no longer take part in the expedition due to his increasing illness. The expedition was named after him in his honor. This privately funded expedition was unique in the history of Russian geography.
