The Souda refugee camp ( Greek Καταυλισμός Σούδας Kataflismos Soudas ) on the Greek Aegean island of Chios was formed in 2015 as one of two refugee settlements on the island, which in the course of 2016 with a school and other infrastructural facilities de facto became a large village. Camp Souda is within walking distance of the central square of the main town of Chios .

The camp, which in April 2017 consisted of a tent city with around 800 inhabitants, who can no longer leave the camp due to the legal situation in connection with the Schengen Agreement . Due to the international legal situation of the refugee settlement, Camp Souda appeared in the media worldwide.

In the context of the deteriorating conditions in terms of accommodation, medical care, hygiene and the guarantee of fundamental human rights on the part of Greece and the EU, NGOs are committed to maintaining decent living conditions in the camp. This includes the provision of food, basic education for children and the defense against violence on the part of radical Greek groups. Right-wing groups attacked the camp in November 2016 with stones and Molotov cocktails . Humanitarian services at the camp are currently provided by the Norwegian Refugee Council .
