ASF Petrolul Moineşti is a Romanian football club from Moineşti , Bacau County . It was founded in 1948 and played in the second highest Romanian football league, Divizia B , for a total of nine years . In the 2003/04 season he reached the round of 16 for the Romanian Cup.

history

Petrolul Moineşti was founded in 1948 and takes its name from the oil production in the Moineşti region . In 1950 the name was changed to Flacăra Moineşti ( German  flame ). The club played in Divizia C for the first time in the 1956 season . About the name Energia Moineşti (1957) he took the name Petrolul Moineşti again in 1958 . After the game operations of Divizia C had been set in 1959, Petrolul played again in the regional leagues before the club returned to Divizia C in 1963. There the team placed - apart from the season 1965/66 - in the middle of the table. In the 1971/72 season, the club won its season, but failed in the promotion games to Delta Tulcea . When Divizia B was increased from two to three seasons a year later , Petrolul made it into the second Romanian league for the first time in second place behind Viitorul Vaslui . However, the club had to relegate by return of post at the end of the 1973/74 season .

In the 1974/75 and 1975/76 seasons Petrolul missed the rise behind Viitorul Vaslui and Relonul Sävinesti . In the following years, the team fell back into the midfield of Divizia C and achieved their worst result in the 1980/81 season with 13th place. In the years that followed, Petrolul had nothing to do with the rise or fall. The 1991/92 season finished the club in 9th place, but had to relegate to Divizia D due to a league reform .

A year later, the club returned to Divizia C and finished the 1993/94 season in second place behind Cetatea Târgu Neamț . After a sixth place in 1994/95, Petrolul took first place at the end of the 1995/96 season and rose to Divizia B. There succeeded by a fifth place in the 1996/97 season for the first time the league. The club also finished the next season in the front midfield. Then he slipped back into the relegation zone and had to go back to Divizia C at the end of the 1999/2000 season . Petrolul managed to get back up immediately, which was followed by relegation in 2002 . The club returned to Divizia B by return of post. The 2003/04 season was the most successful in the club's history. In addition to a fourth place in season 1 behind Politehnica Iași , FC Vaslui and Dacia Unirea Brăila , the club reached the round of 16 of the Romanian Cup after beating first division club FC Brașov , but lost there against FC Argeș Pitești with 0-1.

Also the 2004/05 season could finish Petrolul in the front midfield, but had to relegate to League III a year later . There the club was passed through to League IV in the 2006/07 season .
