Fladday , also called Fladda , is a Scottish island in the Outer Hebrides . It is located in the council area of the same name and was historically part of the traditional county of Inverness-shire .

The island is uninhabited. The Ordnance Survey map from 1881 shows two uncovered buildings on Fladday. 90 years later, only one of the two buildings was still there.

geography

Fladday is located in the North Atlantic about 500 meters off the coast of the Isle of Harris . The island marks the northern end of the Sound of Scarp , which runs between Harris and the larger island of Scarp , 600 meters to the east . It is also located at the exit of the Loch Resort inlet , which cuts east into the Harris land mass. Loch Resort marks the border between Lewis and Harris, the two parts of the twin island Lewis and Harris , making Fladday one of Harris' northernmost points.

The flat island is 470 meters long and 350 meters wide. Its highest point rises 18 meters above sea level.
