Anti-aircraft battery Langwarden

The heavy flak battery Langwarden was a bunkered position of the naval flak in the north of Butjadingen during World War II .

Location and structure

The facility was located west of Langwarden in the north of Ruhwarden and Mürrwarden behind the sea dike between the streets Langwarder Meide and Mürrwarder Straße. A Würzburg radar was located on the dike . The flak battery was identical to the batteries in Schweiburg in Seefeld . It consisted of four above-ground gun bunkers which were arranged around a bunkered control station . To the west of Mürrwarder Straße there was a machine bunker with a 2-cm stand , an accommodation barrack and a second control room.

The German Bight Coast Commander was responsible for the coastal defense . The battery belonged as part of the II. Marine Flakbrigade to the Wilhelmshaven section. The flak battery belonged to Navy Flak Division 272, whose Flakuntergruppenkommando Ost was in Tossens.

history

The Langwarden bunker battery was reported ready for action on December 1, 1940.

Armament

The armament of the bunker battery consisted of four 10.5 cm guns . It was secured to the west with a 2 cm anti-aircraft gun that was located on the dike. The machine bunker also had a 2 cm gun.
