Annabel Wahba
Annabel Wahba (born May 17, 1972 in Munich ) is a German journalist , screenwriter and writer for young people . The main themes of her reports are politics in the Middle East as well as displacement and integration .
Career
Wahba's Coptic father came to Munich in 1958 after studying physics at the Ain-Schams-Universität as a scholarship holder, where he met her mother, a German librarian. After receiving his doctorate in 1964 as Dr.-Ing. at the Technical University of Munich , they moved to Cairo together with the two eldest siblings of Wahba . After the Six Day War , the family emigrated to Germany in 1968, where, in addition to his work for the Society for Plant and Reactor Safety , their father helped found the Coptic communities in Germany from 1975 to 1980. Annabel Wahba is Erdinger district Bergham grew up and went to school. After graduating from high school in 1991, she completed a traineeship at the German School of Journalism . In 1997 she completed her studies in political science at the University of Munich with a master's degree.
During her studies she fell in love with an Israeli , because of whom she went to Israel for two years as a freelance correspondent for the Middle East after completing her master's degree . Her experiences as a German with Arabic roots between Jews processed together with her future husband, the schottischstämmigen journalist and screenwriter Barry Thomson, the writer of a 2014 Degeto movie for BR television filmed culture clash comedy . From the point of view of the Tagesspiegel , a “successful, spirited ARD film [...], which could also have been made by Woody Allen ,” came out. For Tilmann P. Gangloff , the script stood out for its "many funny ideas" and "happily resolved explosive moments in a wonderful way."
In 1999 Wahba returned to Germany and was part of the editorial team of the youth magazine Jetzt from October 1999 to 2001 . From 2001 to 2006 she was an editor on the report page of the Tagesspiegel , since 2007 she has been an employee of Die Zeit .
In 2006/2007, Wahba and her husband completed an apprenticeship at the Munich scriptwriting workshop . Among other things, Wahba was involved in the scripts of several SOKO Leipzig and Degeto films .
Wahba's report “The Last Chat” was nominated in 2009 for the German Reporter Award. Her article "My cleaning lady returns home" was selected for the short list of the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize in 2009 . Wahbas, together with a journalist group of the time, carried out research on the allegations of sexual assault against Dieter Wedel in the course of the #MeToo debate were included in the short list of the Nannen Prize in the "Investigation" category; the research team with the German was responsible for the reports Reporter Prize and the Lighthouse Prize as well as Journalist of the Year .
Wahba has lived in Berlin since 2001 with her husband Barry Thomson and their children.
