Flavio Chigi (born September 8, 1711 in Rome ; † July 12, 1771 there ) was a Roman Catholic Curia Cardinal . To distinguish it from its predecessor of the same name , it is also referred to as Flavio Chigi the Younger or Flavio Chigi iuniore .

Life

Chigi was the third of four children of Augusto Chigi, Prince of Farnese , and Princess Maria Eleonora Rospigliosi; he came from the noble family Chigi and was u. a. related to Fabio Chigi, who later became Pope Alexander VII. Initially he worked for the Apostolic Chamber . He was created cardinal by Pope Benedict XIV on November 26th, 1753 and appointed cardinal deacon of the titled deaconry Sant'Angelo in Pescheria on December 10th, 1753 . He was ordained deacon on June 2, 1754. Chigi took part in the conclave of 1758 , which Clemens XIII. elected to the Pope. On February 12, 1759 he chose Santa Maria in Portico Campitelli as his title diaconia. In 1768 he was appointed prefect of the Congregation for Sacred Rites . In 1769 he was a member of the conclave from which Clement XIV emerged as Pope.

After his death on July 12, 1771, Cardinal Chigi was buried in his family's chapel in the church of Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome.
