The meat Red Mannsschild ( Androsace carnea ) is a species of the genus Mannsschild ( Androsace ) in the family of Primrose (Primulaceae).

features

The flesh red man's shield is a perennial plant that reaches heights of up to 8 centimeters. It is hairy with multi-rayed, short star hairs that grow in small lawns. The leaves are arranged in a few rosettes. They are 5 to 20 millimeters long, 1 to 2 millimeters wide, fleshy, entire, slightly keeled, linear-lanceolate and widest below the center.

The flowers are on 2 to 10 millimeter long stems. They are arranged in multi-flowered umbels, which are located on stems up to 6 centimeters high. The bracts are 2 to 5 millimeters long, lanceolate, and shorter or as long as the flower stalks. The chalice is 3 to 4 millimeters long and bell-shaped. The crown is 5 to 9 millimeters wide and colored light to dark pink, rarely white. The throat is yellow, the lobes are rounded or slightly edged.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 38.

Occurrence

The flesh-red man's shield occurs in the Pyrenees and the western Alps as far as the Simplon . This species grows on low-lime, moist soils in lawns and rubble , especially in the alpine zone at altitudes of up to 3100 meters. He is a species of the Senecioni-Caricetum curvulae from the association Caricion curvulae.

One can distinguish the following subspecies:

  • Androsace carnea subsp. carnea
  • Androsace carnea subsp. rosea (Jord. & Fourr.) Rouy : It occurs in Spain and France.
