Florence is a city in Lane County in the US state of Oregon , which lies on the Pacific Ocean.
According to an estimate in 2006, the city had a population of 8,270. Founded as a fishing and timber port, tourism is the most important branch of the economy today.
Attractions
An elegant bridge with Art Deco elements spans the Siuslaw River .
Below the bridge is the restored old town with old houses and boardwalks.
North of Florence is the only seven hectares large Darlingtonia Botanical Wayside , the only nature reserve in Oregon that only one type, namely the carnivorous cobra lily is dedicated.
The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area extends south of Florence and the Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park to the north .
Others
On November 12, 1970, the place was known for a whale explosion of an 8 ton stranded sperm whale .
