Florens I (Holland)

Florens I (around 1020 - June 18, 1061 ) was Count of Holland.

He was the son of Count Dietrich III. von Holland and the Othelendis von Haldensleben , daughter of Margrave Bernhard I von der Nordmark.

Life

Florens I or Floris I, as he was called in Holland, was born around 1020. He took over the government in 1049 from his late brother Dietrich IV. He submitted to Emperor Heinrich III. and was able to maintain its legacy. He continued the feuds that had become traditional. On June 18, 1061 he was murdered by Margrave Ekbert I of Braunschweig-Meißen out of a rivalry over Friesland.

Marriage and offspring

In 1050 he married Gertrud Billung von Sachsen (* around 1035 - † August 4, 1113), daughter of Duke Bernhard II. With her he had the following children:
