Florian Modlinger (born February 9, 1981 in Friedberg (Bavaria) , Germany ) is a German motorsport engineer and manager who is currently Director of Operations (previously: Technical Director) at ABT Sportsline and previously Technical Director DTM at Audi Motorsport .

Career

2005-2010

Modlinger graduated from the Technical University of Munich with a degree in mechanical engineering. His motorsport career began in 2005 at Götz Motorsport in the VLN and in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. In 2008 he supported the Hybrid Apollo project of the former F1 driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring. At the end of the year, Modlinger moved to Alpina in his first full-time position in motorsport as a racing engineer / aerodynamics development engineer and project manager. He was in action in these functions in the FIA ​​GT3 European Championship, ADAC GT Masters , VLN and in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

2010–2012

In 2010 Modlinger worked as a freelancer at Maserati as a race engineer and technical director of the Maserati customer teams Triple H Team Hegersport and Vitaphone Racing Team. 2013-2018

On January 1, 2013, Modlinger moved from BMW Motorsport to Audi Sport . In his first year he was Mattias Ekström's race engineer and test engineer. He won the drivers' championship with Audi in the 2013 DTM season. In 2014 he continued to be Mattias Ekström's race engineer, and was also appointed test manager. He won the manufacturers' championship with Audi in the 2014 DTM season . In the same year he began to work part-time in the EKS-WRX project as a spotter and race engineer for Mattias Ekström. In 2015 everything remained unchanged, but unfortunately without a title win. In 2016 Modlinger was promoted to DTM race and test operations manager, but at the same time remained Mattias Ekström's race engineer, and he also took over the technical management of the EKS-WRX project. One of the most successful years of his career followed, winning the drivers 'world championship and team world championship in the FIA ​​rallycross world championship and the team championship and manufacturers' championship in the DTM. Modlinger took the next step in his career in 2017. He became the technical director of the Audi Motorsport DTM project. Audi's best DTM season in years followed. As Technical Director, Modlinger led Audi to all possible titles in a season, including drivers' championships, teams' championships and manufacturers' championships. After this outstanding success, he left Audi Motorsport at the end of the year and switched to ABT Sportsline.

2018-2019

On January 1, 2018, Modlinger started his work as Technical Director at ABT Sportsline . He is responsible for the entire technical area of ​​motorsport, including Formula E and DTM works for Audi. He is also Head of Track Operations in the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Formula E Team . For the fourth season, Audi increased factory into the formula E. Modlinger and Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Formula E Team immediately won the FIA ​​Formula E team championship with a sensational race to catch up in the second half of the season. On September 6, 2019, Modlinger was promoted to Director of Operations and is therefore responsible for the technology and deployment of all motorsport projects at ABT Sportsline.
