Florian Mueller
Florian Frederick Mueller (born June 15, 1909 in Bay City , Michigan , † March 14, 1983 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) was an American oboist , composer and music teacher .
Life
Florian Mueller's father was a tailor who had emigrated from Germany, his mother was from Michigan and was a music teacher. Mueller studied at the Chicago Conservatory of Music , where he graduated with a Master of Music in 1928 . Even during his student days he was active as a musician, for example in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra under Eugène Goossens . From 1927 to 1954 Mueller was oboist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , from 1931 as principal oboist. In 1929 he also played for a year in the orchestra of John Philip Sousa .
In addition to his orchestral work, Mueller made a name for himself as a music teacher. He was on the founding college of Roosevelt University in Chicago, where he also sat on the university senate. In 1954 Mueller received a teaching position for oboe and wind orchestra at the University of Michigan , in 1956 he became an associate professor and in 1961 a full professor . In 1974 Mueller retired. He was considered a pioneer of the "American School" of oboe playing.

1960 Mueller was honored for his concert Overture in G with the Sousa / ABA / Ostwald Award of the American Band Masters Association awarded.
