The Ouani Airport ( IATA code : AJN , ICAO code : FMCV ) is a civilian airport on the Comoros belonging island of Anjouan . It borders on the north of the city of Ouani in the north of the island .

Airport

The airport, which is 19 m above sea level, has a 1350 m long runway with a 10/28 orientation. The only approach aid is a non-directional radio beacon (NDB).

An RNAV instrument approach procedure was also implemented by 2015 on behalf of Air Austral .

Airlines and Destinations

The airport is currently served by EWA Air , Air Austral and AB Aviation . Mainly destinations in the Comoros and Mayotte are served.

Incidents

  • On December 27, 2002 was Let L-410 of Ocean Airlines en route from Moroni taken to Anjouan on final approach by lightning. The aircraft took off, but the navigation instruments no longer worked due to the lightning and visibility was poor, resulting in loss of control and a crash. One of the 13 passengers died, the aircraft was a total write-off.
  • On April 9, 2007, flight 611 of Comores Aviation crashed on the way from Anjouan to Mohéli (a LET L-410) when the aircraft shot over the runway after an aborted take-off. All 15 occupants survived, the aircraft was a total write-off.
  • On November 27, 2012, an Embraer 120ER from Inter Iles Air crashed into a lake north of the take-off airport on the way from Moroni to Anjuan shortly after take-off. All occupants could be saved, the plane was a total write-off.
