The Ferrara-San Luca airport ( it: Aeroporto di Ferrara-San Luca “Michele Allasia” ) is located in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna , around two kilometers south of the city center of Ferrara .

Infrastructure and use

The airfield located in the Po Valley has an 800 meter long asphalt runway running in an east-west direction (09/27). A 900 meter long grass runway runs parallel to it. The apron and handling area are in the north. Here also run the Via Richard Wagner ( SS16 ) and the Via Aeroporto that connect the airport with the city center. The airfield is used for general aviation . The operator is the local aero club, which also has a flight school here. There is also a glider club.

In addition to the Ferrara-San Luca airfield, the city also has the Ferrara-Aguscello airfield located a few kilometers southeast of the city center, but which only has one grass runway . The closest commercial airport is Bologna Airport .

history

Ferrara-San Luca airfield opened as a military airfield in the mid-1920s and was named after the military pilot Michele Allasia. In 1927 a bomber squadron ( 14º Stormo ) was set up here . The local Aeroclub Ferrara “Roberto Fabbri” was founded in 1960. The military use of the airfield essentially ended in 1972 when a radar unit ( 11º Posto di Riporto e Controllo ) moved to the former military airfield of Poggio Renatico near Ferrara. Military installations remained in the north of the Ferrara-San Luca airfield.
