Poggio Renatico is a town with 9884 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Ferrara in northeastern Italy.

Geographical location

The city is located 15 km southwest of the provincial capital Ferrara on the administrative border between the province of Ferrara and the metropolitan city of Bologna . A neighboring small town is Sant'Agostino in the west.

The districts (fractions) include Chiesa Nuova, Coronella, Gallo and Madonna Boschi.

The neighboring municipalities are: Baricella , Ferrara , Galliera , Malalbergo , Mirabello , Sant'Agostino and Vigarano Mainarda .

history

The village may have emerged from settlements in Roman times. Since 1300 it was owned by the Lambertini family from Bologna . In 1862 the place was incorporated by Ferrara.

Others

On the former military airfield of Poggio Renatico ( ) there is a base of the Italian Air Force with a national operational command (Comando Operazioni Aerospaziali) . A comparable facility of NATO ( Combined Air Operations Center ) existed on the area until June 2013, since then there has only been one Deployable Air Command and Control Center . The tasks of the former CAOC PR (5) were taken over by the CAOC TJ (8) in Torrejón de Ardoz, Spain .
