Copparo is a small town with 16,071 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Ferrara in the Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy .

Geographical location

The city is located 20 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital Ferrara . Neighboring cities are Rovigo in the north, Codigoro in the southeast and Portomaggiore in the south.

history

The place was mentioned in a document from 870 AD. The city has long been the subject of a dispute between the churches of Ferrara and Ravenna .
