The Pritzwalk-Sommersberg airfield is a special airfield in the Prignitz district . It has an 830 meter long and 30 meter wide grass runway and is approved for gliders , motor gliders , microlights and powered aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of up to two tons.

Incidents

  • On July 31, 2001, a sailplane of the type Scheibe SF27A took off in winch launch . While the pilot flew a curve at a height of 15 to 20 meters, the winch driver disengaged the rope. As a result, the left wing touched the ground and the aircraft hit the ground hard. The pilot was seriously injured.
  • On the evening of November 24, 2002, one was intensive transport helicopters of the type Bell 412 , the then ITH Berlin hot end Christoph Berlin , in the dark on the way to the airport to a patient from the hospital to take Pritzwalk. In poor visibility, the pilot approached too quickly. The right runner then touched the ground and broke off. The helicopter overturned, caught fire, and burned out completely. The 53-year-old copilot was killed on impact. The 44-year-old pilot was thrown from the helicopter and seriously injured. An emergency doctor and a paramedic on board were able to free themselves from the wreckage, but were also seriously injured.
  • On August 7, 2003 a glider of the type Rolladen Schneider LS3-A took off in a winch start. At a height of about 30 meters, the aircraft tilted to the right and hit the ground. The pilot was seriously injured.
