history

In 1999 the building concept for the new flight control / handling / office building as well as the tower was developed by an architectural office based in Frankfurt (Oder) . Construction work began that same year and lasted until spring 2001. In December 1999, the Nigerian President landed during his visit to Eisenhüttenstadt and the EKO .

A modern gas station for AVGAS and JET A1 was built in 2000 to refuel the aircraft. The new company building was inaugurated in spring 2001. As the first outside company, Spreeflug GmbH from Fürstenwalde opened an office on the airfield , which among other things offers charter flights and training for private pilot licenses . Furthermore, in 2001 a hangar was built for the storage of all kinds of aircraft.

On September 28, 2002, the film "Lights" by director Hans-Christian Schmied was shot. On September 18, 2006, the first airship landed on the airfield. On the way from Poznań to Kamenz , the passports of the pilots were checked by the federal police . To visit the Eisenhüttenstadt steelworks "Arcelor Mittal" (EKO), the Chairman of the ArcelorMittal Board of Management , Lakshmi Mittal , landed at the airfield on September 22nd, 2006 .

By 2007 three more hangars were built. The last hangar was completed in November 2007. Since then, all pilots have had the option of hangaring their aircraft.

Since May 2017, a receiver for FLARM signals has also been installed on the airfield, which offers added value, especially for gliders. By connecting to the Open Glider Network (OGN), the recipient contributes to opening up the previously existing reception gap between Berlin and Görlitz.

Gas station

There is a petrol station at the airport, which is operated by the airport operating company. The fuels JET A1 and AVGAS 100LL are available at the filling station .
