Flux of Pink Indians ( FOPI for short , later also Flux ) was a British punk band that existed from 1980 to 1987. The group often represented anarchist views in their songs .
history
The band was formed in 1980 by Colin Latter (vocals), Derek Birkett (bass), Andy Smith (guitar), Neil Puncher (guitar) and Sid Ation (drums), the remaining members of the group Epileptics . In 1981 the band was signed by Crass Records and in the same year Flux of Pink Indians released their debut EP Neu Smell .
Ation soon left the group to concentrate on working with his second band, Rubella Ballet . He was replaced by Dave "Bambi" Ellesmere, former Discharge drummer . At the same time guitarist Andy Smith left Flux of Pink Indians, replacing Simon Middlehurst. After a short time, Ellesmere and Middlehurst left the group again, in favor of The Insane . While FOPI was looking for a replacement for Ellesmere and Middlehurst, Neil Puncher also left the band, the only remaining founding members were singer Colin Latter and bassist Derek Birkett. The group's next and longest-term line-up was with the addition of guitarist Kevin Hunter and drummer Martin Wilson, former members of the bands Darlex and Epileptics .
The group's debut album, Strive to Survive Causing the Least Suffering Possible , was released in 1983 on the band's Spiderleg Records label. The second album, The Fucking Cunts Treat Us Like Pricks , was released in 1984. The artwork for the latter album was designed by Andy Palmer, the guitarist of Crass . The retail chain HMV banned the album from stores, and Manchester police confiscated copies on accusations of disseminating obscene material.
In 1985 FOPI released their second EP, Taking a Liberty . In 1986 they shortened their name to Flux and released their third studio album Uncarved Block , which was released on the newly founded label One Little Indian Records . Adrian Sherwood , who mainly works in the dub genre , acted as producer . A year later the band broke up.
In 2007 Flux of Pink Indians got together again to play a concert at the Shepherds Bush Empire together with Crass singer Steve Ignorant. The lineup for this gig consisted of Colin Latter (singer), Kevin Hunter (guitar), Martin Wilson (drums) and ex- Decadence Within bassist Ian Glasper. Due to the success of the performance, the band decided in 2008 to give three more concerts in Bradford , Dijon and London .
