Folcuin († December 15, 855 in Esquelbecq ) was Bishop of Thérouanne from late 816 or early 817 to 855. He is a saint of the Catholic Church, his feast day is December 14th.

As the son of Hieronymus, Folcuin was a grandson of Karl Martell and thus belonged to the Carolingian dynasty . In 815 he was elected Bishop of Thérouanne; Emperor Louis the Pious confirmed the choice, so that Folcuin could be consecrated by Archbishop Ebo of Reims in 817 . During his tenure, Folcuin can be traced back to a number of councils, such as that council in Ingelheim in 840, at which the expelled Archbishop Ebo was reinstated, at the council in Paris in 846/847, at the council of Quierzy in Year 849 with the execution of the judgment against Gottschalk von Orbais , and the Council of Soissons in the year 853. In the same year Karl the Bald made him one of his twelve West Franconian Missi , whereby his area of office was apparently largely congruent with his diocese .

Folcuin died on December 15, 855 in Esquelbecq during a confirmation and visitation trip. He was buried in the Abbey of Saint-Bertin , with which he had been so closely connected throughout his life that he moved the relics of his predecessor Audomar († 670), which his relative, Abbot Hugo of Saint-Quentin , to the Abbey of Saint in 843 -Quentin wanted to transfer, brought back to Saint-Bertin Abbey. He removed the relics of St. Bertin († 709) and Winoc († 716/717) from his diocese to bring them to safety from the Normans .

After his death, a cult of saints began around his own person, as his relative, the abbot Folcuin of Lobbes , reports, so that his remains were taken from the grave as relics on November 16, 928.
