history

The Foligno Calcio association was founded in 1926 under the name Associazione Sportiva Foligno , or AS Foligno for short , in the town of the same name in the Umbria region in central Italy . After a few years in regional leagues, Foligno played from the 1929/30 season in the Prima Divisione, at that time the third highest division accordingly. Until 1934 they were represented in the Prima Divisione, before they were excluded from league operations as third in the 1933/34 season and had to start again in the Seconda Divisione Umbria. The first name change followed a year later, the club was subsequently called AUSA Foligno . Under the new name, Foligno managed to return to the third class by 1941. In Serie C , which is now in its sixth season, Girona G was 11th straight away and held the class. In the next three years, positions in the middle of the Serie C were achieved. In 1943, games in Italy were interrupted due to the Second World War and only resumed two years later. During the compulsory break, the club renamed itself and took its current name Foligno Calcio .

In Serie C 1945/46, Girona B came second behind AC Perugia , which means that promotion to Serie B was only just missed. But after that it went downhill for Foligno. 1948 came the descent into the Promozione, where you only came sixteenth and was passed through to the Prima Divisione. In the thirty years that followed, Foligno was unable to return to the third highest division, they played for many years in Serie D, but also many more in Promozione. Only in the 1982/83 season succeeded by a second place in the Girona A of the C2 series , only behind AC Prato , the return to the third division, which was now called Series C1 . There you only finished seventeenth and immediately dismounted. After Foligno had even slipped into the depths of regional amateur football, it was not until 2007 that the Girona B of the C2 series was the first to return to the C1 series. There the club played equally well and was fourth in the Girona A. In the playoffs for promotion to Serie B, however, Foligno Calcio failed in the semifinals to AS Cittadella , which would later form the second promoted next to Sassuolo Calcio . Foligno Calcio could not repeat this good placement until today, in the next few years they always achieved placements in the lower range of the Lega Pro Prima Divisione, but could always hold the class.
