Football Under Cover is a German documentary film from the directors Ayat Najafi and David Assmann. It was shot in 2005 and 2006 in Berlin and Tehran.

content

The film shows how for the first time in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran the Iranian women's national team plays in a stadium in front of spectators in their own country: a friendly against a selection from Berlin-Kreuzberg . In the first part of the film, the Kreuzberg soccer team BSV Al-Dersimspor and the Iranian women's national team are presented separately, while the second part portrays the arrival of the German team in Iran and the meeting of both teams.

Reviews

“A feeling for narrative rhythm, the ability to observe and curiosity allow 'Football Under Cover', for example, to merge into that magical interplay in which everything is suddenly right. [...] If the Turkish president of the Kreuzberg troupe has to stay outside, even though he is a Muslim, and lonely behind the fence shouts 'Germany' at the first goal of his players, then this stunning film has long made its indisputable contribution to international understanding between the Kreuzberg Orient -Eck and post-revolutionary Iran. "

Kick it like Beckham ! Young women fight with modesty and openness to enjoy the football game and against the oppression by the Iranian moral guards. Touching, committed and at the same time very entertaining. "
