Forbesganj is a city in the Indian state of Bihar near the border with Nepal . The city got its current name from its former British district collector and commissioner with the surname Forbes .

The city is part of the Araria district . Forbesganj has the status of Nagar Parishad . The city is divided into 25 wards . It had a total of 50,475 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 26,524 were men and 23,951 women. Hindus form the largest group of the city's population with a share of over 68%, followed by Muslims with over 29%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 78.64%, above the national average.

The train station of Forbesganj is on the way from Delhi to Howrah .
