The Forest Hills Cemetery ( German "Forest Hills Cemetery" ) is a historical, little more than a hundred hectares large park cemetery with green areas , Arboretum and Sculpture Garden . It is situated in the Forest Hills , an area in the district of Jamaica Plain in Boston , the capital of the state of Massachusetts on the east coast of the United States .
In 2004 he was included in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) ( German "National Directory of Historic Places" ) (see also: List of entries in the National Register of Historic Places in southern Boston ).
history
It was established in 1848 as the public municipal cemetery of the then still independent city of Roxbury , but privatized when Roxbury was incorporated into Boston in 1868.
There are several notable monuments in the cemetery , including some by famous sculptors . Particularly noteworthy are " Death and the Sculptor " (picture) by Daniel Chester French , the "Memorial Statue for a Fireman " (picture) by John A. Wilson and the American Civil War Memorial (picture) by Martin Milmore .
The cemetery is the final resting place for every dead person. Burials still take place here almost every day of the year.
