Forrester Island is an icy and 5.6 km long island off the Hobbs coast of West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It is located 22 km north-northeast of Shepard Island , which is enclosed by the Getz Ice Shelf , from which it is separated by the Reynolds Strait .
The headland was discovered and mapped on February 5, 1962 aboard the icebreaker USS Glacier under Captain Edwin Anderson McDonald (1907-1988). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1962 after Lieutenant Commander John J. Forrester, then Executive Officer of the USS Glacier .
