The Reynolds Strait is a strait lying on the edge of the Getz Ice Shelf off the Hobbs coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It separates Forrester Island in the north from Grant Island and Shepard Island in the south.
The discovery of this sea route, which was subjected to a depth sounding , coincided with that of Forrester Island on February 4, 1962 from aboard the icebreaker USS Glacier under Captain Edwin Anderson McDonald (1907-1988). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the strait in 1974 after Lieutenant Commander Ralph R. Reynolds (1938–1973), officer in charge of the nuclear reactor unit at McMurdo Station in 1970.
