The Forster , Forster von Selb and Spervogel are a noble family from Egerland .

The Spervogel are the old noble family of the imperial city of Eger (today: Cheb). The best known representative of the sex is the minstrel Spervogel . With the assumption of the office of forester or forester over the Reichswald , whose areas stretch from Eger to Selb , the family adopted the name Forestarius at the beginning of the 14th century , later then simply adopted Forster . Their influence was particularly pronounced in the Selb area. Right from the start you were in competition with the von Nothaft family , who also gained influence as foresters. Their official seat was Thierstein Castle . The foresters were in the wake of the bailiffs of Plauen , to whom King Rudolf I of Habsburg pledged the towns of Selb and Asch . Forest areas around the Epprechtstein , the Kornberg and the Selber Forst were administered by the Forsters. The Bohemian King Johann was awarded the Egerland as a pledge for his support after the Battle of Mühldorf , but the German King Ludwig the Bavarian also appoints forester. Until the middle of the 14th century, Nothaft and Forster were in a competitive situation. In 1389 Erhart Forster surrendered the newly built Neuhaus an der Eger Castle to the German and Bohemian King Wenzel , who was deposed as German King in 1400 and after the Forster clung to him, the castle came under the influence of the Burgraves of Nuremberg through expropriation . Finally, in 1412, the imperial city of Eger razed the castle in the fight against robber barons . With the formation of the later six-office state under Brandenburg-Kulmbach , the office of forester ended.
