Steinhaus is a district in the Bockenberg district of Bergisch Gladbach in the Königsforst . The forester's house Steinhaus is part of the farm complex. Every now and then you hear the name Groß Steinhaus .

history

Originally, the medieval settlement was founded as a knightly fief . At the beginning of the 15th century it became part of the Cologne pen St. Severin . However, it was not completely removed from the old loan relationship, although the estate had been transferred to the monastery 's court association. Due to its significant land holdings, Gut Steinhaus assumed a prominent position within the St. Severin farms association. In the 18th century the property passed to the Cologne Augustinian nuns , who founded a monastery here and built a monastery chapel dedicated to St. Johannes Nepomuk was consecrated. With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the monastery in Gut Steinhaus was dissolved and then nationalized. In 1824 the chapel was torn down. Since then, the former farm buildings have been used as a forester's house. Since 1827 the original cadastre has recorded the farm under the name Groß Steihaus south of the road from Bensberg to Altenbrück / Aggerstraße . The manor house was made of stone. This indicates that, in contrast to a half-timbered house, it had a special meaning and that this dwelling was owned by a noble landlord in the Middle Ages.

Todays use

Until 2003 the farm was used as a forester's house. It was the office of the responsible district forester . As part of the Regionale 2010 , Steinhaus was expanded into an information portal for the State Forest and Wood Office in North Rhine-Westphalia and opened in June 2011. Here it is explained how the Königsforst serves people as a supplier of many natural goods such as oxygen, water, wood, etc.
