Founders Escarpment is a prominent step on the western edge of the Heritage Range , the southern part of the Antarctic Ellsworth Mountains . It extends from the Minnesota Glacier in the north in a southeast direction to the head of the Splettstoesser Glacier , where it bends to the southwest.

The eternal ice flows over the step from the highlands in the west into the valleys of the Founders Peaks , which lie immediately to the east. To the north of the Splettstoesser glacier, at the head of the Gowan glacier , the 2170  m high Cunningham Peak rises from the step. At the southern end are the Zavis Peak and the Unger Peak .

Founders Escarpment was named after the Founders Peaks by a geological expedition from the University of Minnesota , who explored the area in the Antarctic summer 1963/64.
