Fountain City is a small town (with the status " City ") in Buffalo County in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , Fountain City had 859 residents.
geography
The city is located in western Wisconsin, on the east bank of the Mississippi , which forms the natural border with Minnesota . The hinterland of the city is hilly to slightly mountainous.
The city has a total area of 14.4 km², of which 11.6 km² are land and 2.9 km² (20.1%) are water.
history
Before the settlement by white settlers, Indians of the Chippewa and Winnebago tribes lived in this area along the Mississippi . In 1839 the city of Fountain City was founded. The name comes from the many springs in the village, whose water drains to the Mississippi.
In the years that followed, the settlers cultivated the surrounding areas and brought business to the area. Many relics from the first decades of settlement were found later .

Character of the city
The cityscape is significantly influenced by the main street, which runs parallel to the river. The town's only bank is on this street, as well as a few tiny shops.

There are several churches in the city. In addition to the Catholic Church, there is, among other things, the Protestant “United Church of Christ”.
The Catholic Church is a typical neo-Gothic masonry building with stylistic elements from the European Middle Ages, but also from English colonial architecture. It is a single nave church with an external bell tower. It is illuminated at night and is one of the city's landmarks.
The Evangelical Church is a modern, inconspicuous new building, a few 100 m from the Catholic Church.
