Foz de Arouce is a locality and former municipality in Portugal.
history
Already at the time of the County of Coimbra at the end of the 10th century, the place belonged to the district of Lousã.
During the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula , on March 15, 1811, Portuguese-British troops and the retreating French invading army under General André Masséna met here . A memorial stone reminds of the event.
Culture and sights
Among the protected monuments here is the baroque mansion Casa Foz de Arouce , the parish church Igreja Paroquial de Foz de Arouce (also Igreja de São Miguel ) from the 16th century, and the bridge from the 14th century, which spans in five arches the Rio Ceire leads.
At the memorial to the battle of 1811 a memorial commemorates the date.

Foz de Arouce was an independent municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Lousã . On June 30, 2011 the community had 1075 inhabitants on an area of 15.6 km².
In the course of the municipal reorganization of Portugal after the municipal elections on September 29, 2013, the municipality was merged with Casal de Ermio to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Foz de Arouce e Casal de Ermio . The seat of the new municipality was Foz de Arouce.
