Fráňa Šrámek (born  January 19, 1877 in Sobotka , †  July 1, 1952 in Prague ) was a Czech poet, writer and dramaturge. Šrámek was with Stanislav Kostka Neumann the leader of anarchist groups and advocate of anti-militarism . His work is assigned to impressionism .

Life

In 1886 he moved with his parents to Písek , a town where a large part of his theater plays and novels take place. After attending grammar school in Písek and Roudnice nad Labem , he first studied at the Faculty of Law at Charles University in Prague , then dropped out and devoted himself to literature. His one-year military service was extended by one year because of his anti-military statements. From 1903 he lived in Prague, joined the literary circle New Cult ( Nový kult ) around Neumann, was active in the anarchist movement and sympathized with the socialist anti-military youth group around Emil Špatný. Because of his participation in peace demonstrations and his anti-war poem "Píšou mi psaní" he was sent to prison. In 1914 he fell seriously ill, but was then called up for military service. After the founding of Czechoslovakia , he joined the group around Karel Čapek , but was no longer politically active - as in his early youth. During the Second World War he did not leave his house in protest against fascism. In 1946 he was appointed national artist of Czechoslovakia.

Works

Among the best of his works are poems and short stories that he wrote at the beginning of the century. These works were about anarchism and resistance to war. Later he turns to the sensual life. They are soulful love poems, stories marked by love for nature and youth.
