François de Coligny-d'Andelot
François de Coligny-d'Andelot (born April 18, 1521 ; † May 27, 1569 ) was Colonel général of the French infantry and brother of Gaspard II. De Coligny .
Life
François served in the wars of Henry II , and in 1555 he became Colonel General of the French Infantry in the place of his brother Gaspard. In Saint-Quentin taken in 1557 together with his captive, he fled and took part in the capture of the following winter Calais and Guines part.
Won for the Reformation on a trip to Germany , he was arrested on the orders of the king and spent a year as a prisoner in Melun . Free again, he appeared as a defender of his fellow believers and took an active part in the Huguenot Wars . After taking Orléans by surprise on April 2, 1562 , he enlisted an army of 3,300 horsemen and 4,000 mercenaries in Hesse , with whom he fought in the Battle of Dreux in 1562 .
He defended Orléans against Duke François de Lorraine until his assassination put an end to the siege. After the Battle of Jarnac , busy gathering a new army at Saintonge , he died of fever on May 27, 1569.
