Françoise Combes
Françoise Combes (born August 12, 1952 in Montpellier ) is a French astrophysicist and cosmologist .
Life
Combes studied from 1971 to 1975 at the École normal supérieure (Paris) , where she taught after the Agrégation 1975 and the Thèse de 3ème cycle (dissertation: Conditions of nucleosynthesis in a symmetric universe of matter-antimatter), where from 1985 she was head of the physics department. Laboratory was, and received his doctorate in 1980 at the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot) (second part of the then two-part French doctoral system, corresponding to a habilitation) with a dissertation on dynamics and structure of galaxies. She is at the Paris Observatory (from 1989) and professor at the Collège de France (Chair of Galaxies and Cosmology from 2014).
Act
She deals with the structure and dynamics of galaxies and their interaction and evolution with observational astronomy (including millimeter-wave radio astronomy) and numerical simulations, dealt with interstellar gas in galaxies and models and simulations of dark matter.
In 2018, Combes was one of the 200 signatories of an appeal in the newspaper Le Monde , in which it was warned of drastic consequences such as the extinction of human species, unless a quick rethinking of problem areas such as climate change and the extinction of species and wider planetary limits occurs.
