Franc Hočevar

Franc Jože Hočevar , also Franz Hočevar, (born October 10, 1853 in Metlika , † June 19, 1919 in Graz ) was an Austrian mathematician.

Hocevar went to school in Ljubljana and studied mathematics and physics at the University of Vienna with a doctorate under Ludwig Boltzmann in 1875. He was an assistant at the Technical University of Vienna , from 1879 a high school professor in Innsbruck , from 1883 a private lecturer at the University of Innsbruck, from 1891 an associate professor and from 1894 full professor at the Technical University of Brno and from 1894 to 1915 professor of mathematics at the Technical University of Graz , where he was repeatedly dean of the mechanical engineering faculty.

He is the author of many mathematics textbooks for middle schools. In 1904 he was invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Heidelberg.

His daughter Bertha Maria Anna married the bacteriologist Paul Theodor Müller .
