Franca Falcucci (born March 22, 1926 in Rome ; † September 4, 2014 ibid) was an Italian politician of the Democrazia Cristiana (DC), who was a member of the Senato della Repubblica for 24 years and minister for public education between 1982 and 1987.

Life

Franca Falcucci completed a degree in philosophy and history after attending school and worked as a teacher for these subjects at a high school after completing her studies .

On May 19, 1968, she became a member of the Senato della Repubblica as a candidate of the Democrazia Cristiana, where she represented the interests of the Lazio region for 24 years from the fifth to the end of the tenth legislative period on April 22, 1992 .

During her membership in the Senate she was a member of the Committee on Justice and Rules of Procedure (Commissione permanente per Giustizia e autorizzazioni a procedere) between July 1968 and May 1971 and again between November 1972 and October 1975, and at the same time from July 1968 to May 1972 of the Committee on Public Education and Beautiful Arts (Commissione permanente per l'Istruzione pubblica e belle arti) . In July 1972 she became vice-chairman of the Public Education Committee and held this position until June 1979.

On July 31, 1976 Franca Falcucci was appointed Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Public Education (Sottosegretario di Stato per la pubblica istruzione) by Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti . She also held this position in the subsequent governments of Prime Ministers Francesco Cossiga , Arnaldo Forlani and Giovanni Spadolini until November 30, 1982. Between July 1979 and July 1987 she was again a member of the Committee on Public Education.

After that, on December 1, 1982, she was appointed Minister for Public Education (Ministro della pubblica istruzione) in the fifth cabinet of Prime Minister Amintore Fanfani . She also held the ministerial office in the first and second cabinets of Bettino Craxi and in the sixth cabinet of Amintore Fanfani until July 27, 1987.

During her last legislative term in the Senate, Franca Falcucci was a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and Immigration (Commissione permanente per l'Affari esteri e emigrazione) from August 1987 to April 1992 .
