France Daigle

France Daigle (born November 18, 1953 in Moncton ) is a Canadian writer and journalist . Her self-reflective , intertextual , metafictional and humorous novels and stage plays are considered outstanding works of postmodern literature in Acadia . In addition to standard French , she uses the chiac in her texts , an archaic variant of the Acadian mixed with English elements .

Life and work

Daigle grew up in Dieppe , New Brunswick . In 1976 she completed her art studies at the Université de Moncton with a BA. From 1973 to 1977 she worked for the Moncton newspaper L'Évangéline . She later worked for L'Acadie Nouvelle and Radio-Canada .

Her debut novel Sans jamais parler du vent was published in 1983 . Since the novel in 1953. Chronique d'une naissance annoncée (1995), the representation of Acadia is an important motif of her work. From 1997 she worked for several years with the Moncton Sable Theater, which performed her plays Moncton sable (1997), Craie (1999) and Foin (2000).

Starting with her novel La vraie vie (1991), she continues the story of the characters Elizabeth and Claude in subsequent novels; in Pas pire (1998) Terry Després and Carmen Thibodeau were added to the figures that were used. For pas pire she received a. a. the Prix Éloizes. This novel, fragmented in terms of content and form, stands “on the border between puzzle and mosaic”; his "mathematical [s] structural principle" brings him close to the OuLiPo . Robert Majzels ' translation of Pas pire into English ( Just Fine , 1999) won the 2000 Governor General's Literary Award for Translation .

In 2011, Daigle's oeuvre received the New Brunswick Lieutenant-Governor's Award for High Achievement in the Arts . In 2012 she received the Prix ​​du Gouverneur général pour romans et nouvelles for Pour Sûr (2011) . This novel, which she wrote for ten years, has been described as " encyclopedic ", " labyrinthine " and as a literary " Rubik's Cube ". For the first time she used the chiac in the character speech as well as in the narrative text. Daigle's works have not yet been translated into German.

That of vraie La vie inspired feature film Effractions of Jean-Marc Larivière was in 2014 when international Festival du cinéma francophone en Acadie in New Brunswick premiere.
