Francesco Balsimelli

Francesco Balsimelli (born January 29, 1894 in San Marino , † February 21, 1974 ibid) was a San Marinese historian , writer and politician .

Life

Francesco Balsimelli, who came from a family of stonemasons , began his career studying literature at the Istituto Guinicelli at the University of Bologna , where he graduated in December 1925 with a dissertation on "San Marino e la libertà millenaria della Repubblica".

In 1923 he was appointed rector of the Gimnasio San Marino , where he also worked as a professor of Italian , Greek , Latin and constitutional law. In addition to literary and legal essays, he wrote dramas , comedies and musical fairy tales . Francesco Balsimelli also worked as a correspondent for Italian and other foreign newspapers and magazines. As a historian, Balsimelli wrote numerous biographies of famous San Marinese and Italian personalities such as Giovanni Battista Belluzzi , Melchiorre Delfico , Bartolomeo Borghesi , the canon Federico Balsimelli, Gino Zani and Giuseppe Balducci Mastella, as well as historical documentaries on different periods of the country's history. In 1941 he founded the San Marinese magazine "Il Campanone", which he directed until the end of 1946.

From April 1 to October 1, 1944 he was one of the two Capitani Reggenti (heads of state) and then a member of the Grand and General Council of San Marino ( Consiglio Grande e Generale ).

His numerous works are now in the National Library Biblioteca di Stato e Beni Librari in the Palazzo di Famiglia Valloni .
