Giovanni Battista Belluzzi

Giovanni Battista Belluzzi , also known as Giovanni Battista di Bartolomeo Bellucci (born September 27, 1506 in San Marino , † March 25, 1554 in Montalcino ) was a San Marinese fortress builder.

Life

Born in the Republic of San Marino , was Giovanni Battista Belluzzi at the age of 18 years by his father Bartolo di Simone , a well-known politicians, Capitano Reggente and influential entrepreneurs in San Marino, after Bologna sent to the profession of there merchant to learn. After two years he returned to San Marino, where he worked as a businessman.

He came to architecture through his wife, a daughter of Girolamo Genga . He was particularly known as a fortress builder. In the service of Cosimo I de 'Medici , Gran Duque de Toscana, he built numerous buildings until his death. On behalf of Cosimo he designed fortifications in Florence , Pistoia , Pisa and San Miniato , which became known as "Bastión Mediceo San Miniato al Monte , Florence" (1553). During this time he also wrote a work on military architecture. In 1553 he was appointed captain in the War of Siena .

Giovanni Battista Belluzzi was seriously wounded during the siege of the fortress at the Battle of Montalcino and died in March 1554 as a result of his injuries. On behalf of Cosimo I he was buried in San Marino in 1554 in the church of St. Peter. When the church was demolished in 1826, his remains were found covered with armor.
