Francesco Dracone

Francesco Dracone (born September 21, 1983 in Turin ) is an Italian racing driver . He competed in the Auto GP , the former Euroseries 3000 , with interruptions from 2006 to 2014 . In 2015 Dracone started in the IndyCar Series .

Career

Dracone began his motorsport career in 1997 in kart racing , in which he was active until 1999. In 2002 he switched to the Italian Formula 3 championship , in which he competed until 2005. However, he never took part in a full season and only completed nine races in the four years. In 2006 he moved to the Euroseries 3000 for Euronova Racing . He took part in seven of the nine race weekends and finished in eighth place as the best result in 23rd place overall. In 2007 he started for two teams in the Euroseries 3000 and he scored his first points in this racing series. At the end of the season he was 22nd. In 2008 Dracone played his third season in the Euroseries 3000 for Emmebi Motorsport. He managed to score more regularly this season and he improved to 18th place in the overall standings. In the following season he stayed with Emmebi Motorsport and again managed to improve the overall ranking. With fifth place as the best results, he finished seventh overall. He also took part in two races in the Superstars Series , a touring car series.

In 2010 Dracone initially found no cockpit. At the end of July he completed a test drive in the IndyCar Series for Conquest Racing and was then signed for two races as a replacement for Mario Romancini . At the end of the season, the racing driver, who couldn't keep up with his team-mate in either race, finished 37th overall. In 2011 he returned to Emmebi Motorsport in Europe. For the Italian racing team he competed in the Auto GP, the successor to the Euroseries 3000. After the racing team dropped out of the series for the fourth event, Dracone continued his involvement with Ombra Racing . Dracone finished the season with one point in 21st place overall. His ombra teammate Kevin Ceccon became champions. In 2012 Dracone started the season for Virtuosi Racing UK for the third race weekend of the now Auto GP World Series racing series. He finished the season in 16th place, while his teammate Pål Varhaug was second overall. In 2013 Dracone drove two race weekends each for SuperNova International and the Ibiza Racing Team in the Auto GP . He reached the 22nd place overall. He also completed IndyCar test drives for Dale Coyne Racing . In 2014 Dracone took part in the Auto GP for Ibiza Racing in one and for Super Nova in four events. With two sixth places as the best results, he was 13th in the drivers' championship.

In 2015 Dracone received a cockpit from Dale Coyne Racing for the first five races of the IndyCar Series. A 21st place was his best result.
