Francesco Gentilini

Francesco Gentilini (born October 21, 1782 in Spoleto , † May 12, 1856 in Rome ) was an Italian clergyman, bishop of Rimini and archbishop of the Curia .

Life

He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1805 . As a canon of the Cathedral of Spoleto, he was examiner of the diocese.

At the age of 50, Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . on September 15, 1832 Titular Bishop of Amyclae and Administrator of Rimini. He was ordained bishop on September 23rd of the same year by Cardinal Carlo Odescalchi SJ , co- consecrators were Archbishop Francesco Canali and Dominico Secondi OFMConv , Bishop of Assisi . On April 15, 1833, he succeeded as Bishop of Rimini and on May 29, 1838 was papal assistant to the throne .

Francesco Gentilini resigned from the episcopate in Rimini on December 18, 1844, whereupon Gregory XVI. called him to Rome and appointed him titular Archbishop of Tyana . On February 16, 1845, he was also a canon of the Vatican Basilica and on August 11 of the same year, he was co-cultor of the Congregation of the Holy Office . Pope Pius IX appointed him on December 10, 1846 as the examiner of the bishops in canon law and on May 2, 1847 as secretary of the Congregation for the Examination of Bishops.
