The diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino ( Latin Dioecesis Assisiensis-Nucerina-Tadinensis , Italian Diocesi di Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Italy with its seat in Assisi .
It was founded as the diocese of Assisi as early as the 3rd century. On September 30, 1986, it was united with the diocese of Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino and has been named above since then. As a suffragan, the diocese is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Perugia-Città della Pieve .
On November 19, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Domenico Sorrentino as the new bishop of the diocese . Sorrentino, who was previously secretary of the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments , is allowed to continue his previous title of Archbishop . He is the successor to Sergio Goretti , whose resignation due to age reasons was accepted on the same day.
Shortly before, the Pope had decreed that the holy places in Assisi should be withdrawn from the Franciscans and placed under the bishop's authority.
