Life

Francesco Mitta is recorded on December 8, 1662 in the baptismal register of the parish church of San Lorenzo in Chiavenna. Around 1690, like many of his compatriots, he went to Northern Germany, where the Italian baroque style was considered exemplary at the royal courts. Provost Bernhard Goeken called him to Grauhof , where he was in charge of the new construction of the convent building and the collegiate church of St. Georg from 1701 until his death . The interior of the church was created by Lorenz Franz Biggen according to his specifications . The ensemble is considered to be one of the most important baroque complexes in Lower Saxony .

In 1698 Mitta married Elisabeth Wiedemeyer in Grauhof . The couple had five daughters and four sons between 1699 and 1713. The daughter Maria Agnes married Johann Daniel Köppel , a pupil and colleague of her father, in Grauhof in 1729 . Francesco Mitta's son Anton became forester in Vöhrum ; he changed his name to noon .

In the Goslar district of Ohlhof , the Franz-Mitta-Weg is named after Francesco Mitta.
