Francis Thomas Baring, 6th Baron Northbrook (born February 21, 1954 ) is a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party .

biography

Family and education

He comes from the Baring family and was born to Francis John Baring, 5th Baron Northbrook and his wife Rowena Margaret Manning. He attended Winchester College in Winchester in the county of Hampshire , England. He studied history at the University of Bristol ; there he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA).

When his father died on December 4, 1990, he inherited his nobility title 6th Baron Northbrook and the subordinate title 8th Baronet , of London.

Career

He then embarked on a career in finance, investment, and insurance. He was a Chartered Accountant as well as a Chartered Accountant ( Chartered Accountant working). He was initially a consultant and auditor ( trainee accountant ) at the insurance company Dixon Wilson Ltd (1976–1980). From 1981 to 1989 he worked in various positions at British investment bank Baring Brothers & Co Ltd . From 1981 to 1983 he worked there as a credit analyst consultant. In 1983 he moved there in the area of asset management ( Asset Management ) and worked from 1983 to 1985 for Baring Investment Management ala investment advisors ( investment analyst ). From 1985 to 1989 he was in the Private Client Department of Baring Investment Management. From 1990 to 1993 he was Senior Investment Manager at the investment company Taylor-Young Investment Management Ltd. He was also an investment manager ( Senior Investment Manager ) at the investment company Smith & Williamson Securities (1993–1995). From 1996 to 2006 he was Director ( Director ) of the asset management company Mars Asset Management Ltd.

Since 2006 he has been a trustee ( Trustee ) of the charity Fortune Forum ; the organization counts the fight against poverty , the improvement of health and general living conditions as well as the protection of the environment among its main tasks. The organization is supported by prominent guest speakers. Former US President Bill Clinton spoke at the first conference in 2006 . In November 2007, at the second event, former US Vice President Al Gore .

Baring also works as a farmer and large landowner .

Membership in the House of Lords

With the death of his father and the related inheritance of the title of Baron Northbrook, Baring became an official member of the House of Lords on December 4, 1990 . He is a member of the Conservative Party . In the Hansard , word contributions from Baring from 1991 to 2005 are documented. He is one of the 92 elected Hereditary Peers who retained their seat in the House of Lords under the House of Lords Act 1999 . From 1990 to 2000 he was the opposition whip . He spoke on budgetary and constitutional issues as well as agricultural policy and agriculture . His political interests include foreign policy .

Private

Baring had been with Amelia Sarah Elizabeth Taylor, daughter of Dr. Reginald David Taylor married. The marriage was divorced again in 2006. The marriage produced three daughters. There is therefore no heir to the title of Baron Northbrook. The likely title heir for the title of baronet is Peter Baring (* 1939), a distant cousin of Baring.

On December 4, 2005, Baring's Woodlands Farm family home in Bramdean , Hampshire, was badly damaged by fire. The fire was temporarily put out by water from the swimming pool ; this enabled valuable family heirlooms to be saved. Nine paintings from the family collection were acquired by Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein in December 2006 . Baring's hobbies include cricket , tennis , skiing and fishing .
